St John's Island (P. Sekijang Bendera)

Entrance of St John's Island

Southern islands in Singapore includes(not limited to): St John's Island, Kusu Island, Pulau Seringat and Lazarus island.
Many of these islands are managed by Sentosa and there are many plans to develop. So better to visit before it becomes totally built up!
St John's island is a rustic island which has a holiday bungalow and a mini lagoon to swim. It is linked to Lazarus Island and Pulau Seringat.
Upon reaching St John island via a boat(how to go will be elaborated) saw cocks and hens together with their chicks following them behind!

Spot the chicks!
On the island, you can expect enough benches to seat and eat but beware of going down to the beach which is laded with crabs! The crabs have extended their home so far as to even find crab holes away from the beach! That said, do not expect to lay down your picnic mats or you will realise it will not only be ants but also crabs sharing your meal. Keep your meals to the tables provided.

Beach with lagoon. Beware of crabs!
If you continue walking down the pathway(or up because there is a hill) you will reach the Tropical Marine Science Institute or the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority building. We walked into one of these compounds and were told that it was private property and should not stay within those compounds. Unless you are going on a date or have a stay in the holiday bungalows, do not expect too much from this island alone. However, when I went there, the few hours between the first boat and last boat which berthed at St John's was not enough to explore St John's, Lazarus and P.Seringat. But if you only want to explore St John's Island alone, it is more then enough time to explore the breathtaking views it offers.

If you go during the weekday on the first boat at 10am, you will find that the island is leterally empty which will give you whatever privacy or peace you want.
When the 1445 boat arrived( on fri) there may be presence of holiday makers who might have booked a stay in the bungalows.

Another scenic view!

Recently, I got to go past St John  island again on a boat at around end of 2020 and was able to enjoy her natural cliffs at Sunset. This part of St John is at the South West part of St John's.

How to get to St John's Island? (as at 2013)

Boat from Singapore Island Cruise. You may purchase tickets at their counter at Marina South Pier.
http://www.islandcruise.com.sg/ferry-schedule.html
The boat shuttles between mainland to St John's and Kusu Island.(then back to mainland)
Round ticket costs 18 dollars. If you happen to miss the last boat, it will cost you 120 SGD for them to pick you up.
Impt things to bring is a cap and lots of water as it can get really hot!
