Pulau Serangoon/Corney Island

Entrance of P.Serangoon now blocked off

Typical view of the island
Ever wonder whats up at the tip of Punggol which is now blocked off by authorities? It is Cornet island aka P.Serangoon.

The typical view of what the island looks like inside is on the left! Its just a long stretch of this. Had to park my bicycle outside and explore the island by foot. I remember seeing the 2013 Draft Masterplan in which Corney Island was slated for some kind of development. It would be interesting to see what they come out with.

Previously before I actually came to the island (which i heard is a haven for fishing) The scheduled day my friend an I wanted to come was struck with rain. And I read in the news the next day that someone died on this island while fishing.

Too many pictures! Not sure if this is the view from the island
Anyway, not sure if the above pic is the view from the island( to many pictures) but one can actually walk along the island edge and just watch SG sea traffic!
Outside the island on Serangoon West Dam

How to get to P.Serangoon/Corney Island?

From Punggol Jetty, walk the nature walk (eastern direction) all the way till you reach the above picture. This is the Serangoon West Dam Entrance. Then you will reach a gate where you won't be allowed to cross( but you might if you feel adventurous).

The other entrance is from Pasir Ris farmway area(Lorong Halus). Entrance is through Serangoon East Dam. Never been to P.Serangoon from that way before but heard is more challenging.

And thats that! Seeya there! Seeing Singapore Sooner than Never!

ANOTHER TRIP TO PULAU SERANGOON: Aug 2020

Map of Pulau Serangoon Apr 2020

Now that Pulau Serangoon has been opened to public for a few years already, it is high time to record it again before this place becomes even more developed!

Previously above, we saw in 2014 where the pavements outside P Serangoon were all not tiled. now, they are all well paved and entering Pulau Serangoon is now a breeze!

In fact, now I find it too crowded! There is some  respite though, one may walk along the park connecter on the south of the island which is much more peaceful.

But first of all, this is how the end of Punggol road look like on Aug 2020

From P Serangoon looking over to mainland (red area below). Full of trees! (2020)

Areas in blue now clear grass patches or construction. Red still lots of trees: Aug 2020

I recall that when I went to P Serangoon in 2014, the West Dam entrance outside was still  lots of trees like the picture above. Now they are all  gone. Only left the red area full of trees!

At P Serangoon Eastern entrance photo of Lorong Halus jetty!

From the Eastern entrance, we  can see Lorong Halus jetty were kelongs to the north can use this jetty to unload their wares!

From the Eastern entrance, there is a path that one can  walk (along Sungai Serangoon ) towards Lorong Halus bridge.

We walked the red line from P Serangoon East entrance to the Lorong Halus bridge

Swamp that we saw while walking the path as per map above from P Serangoon East entrance to Lorong Halus bridge (2020)

It was raining cats and dogs! so swampy!

Path from P Serangoon east entrance to Lorong Halus bridge (2020)

In recent news in 2021, it was mentioned that reclamation may take place near Lorong Halus. Anyway, as expected, many development works are already happening at Lorong Halus at Jul 21. We took this opputunity to take photo of the Lorong Halus Jetty before it disappears. So the Lorong Halus Jetty is to serve the kelongs in the north east. (Lim Chu Kang Jetty to serve north west).

That is all for today! The second section of this post of Pulau Serangoon was taken in 2020/2021 in continuation of the first post posted in 2014
